Who Are We
ETHS Women in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics is a club at Evanston Township High School (ETHS) devoted to empowering girls to go into careers in STEM fields. Currently, only 27% of computer scientists and 13% of engineers are girls. Also, 80% of women who have a degree in a STEM field are not in the labor force. It is our mission to change these numbers.
WiSTEM works very closely with Northwestern University to bring undergraduate and graduate students to come talk to high school students about what it is actually like to study and work in a STEM field. WiSTEM works especially close with Kristen Perkins, the Northwestern University/Evanston Township High School Partnership Coordinator. This connection allows for the girls in this club to experience certain activities that we would not normally have access to, such as girl-only shadow days in the Northwestern Labs. For this we are extremely thankful. To learn more about our connection with Northwestern University, please visit this article.
The senior presidents of this club are Lucy and Caitlin and the junior board members are Abby and Allison, all students at ETHS. We all have a passion for these STEM fields and hope that we will be able to pass this on to others. If you have any questions or ideas for the club, please email us at [email protected]!
